- In the World Press Freedom Index 2026, released by Reporters Without Borders (RSF), India has secured the 157th position out of 180 countries.
- For the 10th consecutive year, Norway has retained the top spot. It is followed by the Netherlands, Estonia, Denmark, and Sweden, which occupy the subsequent positions.
- Eritrea ranked last (180th). Preceding it are North Korea, China, Iran, and Saudi Arabia.
- India’s ranking has slipped by six places—from the 151st position in 2025 to the 157th position in 2026.
