World Press Freedom Index 2026 In the World Press Freedom Index 2026, released by Reporters Without Borders (RSF), India has secured the 157th position out of 180 countries. For the 10th consecutive year, Norway has retained the top spot. It is followed by the Netherlands, Estonia, Denmark, and Sweden, which occupy the subsequent positions. Eritrea ranked last (180th). Preceding it are North Korea, China, Iran, and Saudi Arabia. India's ranking has slipped by six places—from the 151st position in 2025 to the 157th position in 2026.
