What is leptospirosis?
- Leptospirosis is caused by a type of bacteria called Leptospira.
- It is a zoonotic disease, meaning it can infect humans from animals.
- The bacteria that cause leptospirosis are spread through the urine of infected animals, which can survive in soil or water for weeks to months.
Types of Leptospirosis
- Anicteric Syndrome
- Anicteric syndrome is the initial stage of leptospirosis.
- Icteric Syndrome
- If people recover and then get sick again, they may enter the second stage of leptospirosis.
- This form is called icteric syndrome or Weil’s disease.
