22nd ASEAN Summit Prime Minister, while addressing the 22nd ASEAN-India Summit virtually, declared that “the 21st century is our century — the century of India and ASEAN.” On that basis, the year 2026 has been declared as the Year for the Promotion of ASEAN-India Maritime Cooperation. The two sides are focused on implementing the ASEAN-India Plan of Action 2026-2030 to strengthen cooperation in: Trade, Investment, Education, Food Security and Technological Development. The summit was held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. About the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) It was established in 1967 in Bangkok (Thailand) with the signing of the ASEAN Declaration (Bangkok Declaration). Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand are the founding members of ASEAN. It has ten member countries. Other members are Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, and Brunei. India is not a member of ASEAN. Act East policy It was announced by PM Modi in 2014. It is a successor to the Look East policy. The objective is to promote economic cooperation and cultural ties and develop strategic relationships with countries in the Asia-Pacific region.
