Jnanpith Award Context: The 60th Jnanpith Award for the year 2025 has been announced for the Tamil poet Vairamuthu.  Vairamuthu is the first Tamil writer to receive this award specifically for poetry. About Poet Vairamuthu He is a Tamil poet, writer, and film lyricist. He was born on July 13, 1953, in Mettur, near Theni district. He has authored more than 40 books. He holds the distinction of being the first Tamil writer to receive the Jnanpith Award after a gap of 23 years. About the Jnanpith Award Established in 1961, this award is presented annually to writers who have excelled in the literature of Indian languages. It is conferred upon writers whose works are written in any of the languages ​​listed in the 8th Schedule of the Indian Constitution, as well as in English. The award comprises a cash prize of ₹1 lakh, a citation, and a bronze statue of Goddess Saraswati (Vagdevi). This award is presented by the cultural organization Bharatiya Jnanpith. The award was first received by G. Sankara Kurup in 1965 for his poetry collection Odakkuzhal.  Previous Tamil Writers Who Received the Jnanpith Award Writer Akilan received the Jnanpith Award for the year 1975 for his novel Chithirappavai.
