Space CE20 Cryogenic Engine Context: The 'Flight Acceptance Hot Test' of the indigenously developed CE20 cryogenic engine was successfully completed at ISRO's Propulsion Complex in Mahendragiri for the upcoming LVM3-M7 space mission. About the CE20 Cryogenic Engine The CE20 is a powerful cryogenic rocket engine developed in India. It is used in the upper stage (C25/C32 stage) of the LVM3, India's heaviest operational rocket. It utilizes liquid propellants at very low temperatures to generate the high thrust required to transport heavy satellites into Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit and to send spacecraft on deep-space missions. About the CE20 Cryogenic Engine The CE20 is a powerful cryogenic rocket engine developed in India. It is used in the upper stage (C25/C32 stage) of the LVM3, India's heaviest operational rocket. It utilizes liquid propellants at extremely low temperatures to generate the high thrust required to transport heavy satellites into Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit (GTO) and to send spacecraft on deep-space missions. Development The CE20 engine was designed and developed by ISRO's Liquid Propulsion Systems Centre (LPSC). It underwent testing and qualification at the ISRO Propulsion Complex (IPRC). Background The CE20 was introduced as a more robust and reliable, fully indigenous replacement for the earlier CE-7.5 engine. It has successfully powered eight consecutive LVM3 missions, including Chandrayaan-2 and Chandrayaan-3. Key Objective To provide a reliable indigenous cryogenic engine for launching: Heavy communication satellites Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite constellations Human spaceflight missions like Gaganyaan Key Technical Features Gas-Generator Cycle Utilizes a simple gas-generator cycle. Enhances engine reliability. Facilitates easier engine operation and superior control during flight. Cryogenic Propellant System Uses liquid hydrogen as fuel and liquid oxygen as the oxidizer.  Offers high efficiency in transporting heavy payloads into space. Adjustable Thrust Generates thrust ranging from 19 to 22 tonnes. Enables the engine to perform optimally across various…
