Central Vigilance Commissioner (CVC) Context: The Central Government has invited applications from eligible senior officials to fill the post of Central Vigilance Commissioner (CVC). The post is becoming vacant as the incumbent CVC, Praveen Kumar Srivastava (1988 IAS batch), is set to retire shortly. Consequently, the process for selecting a new Commissioner has been initiated. About Central Vigilance Commissioner The CVC is India's apex anti-corruption body. It was established based on the recommendations of the K. Santhanam Committee (1964) on the prevention of corruption. It was accorded statutory status under the Central Vigilance Commission Act, 2003. The Commission comprises a Central Vigilance Commissioner (Chairperson) and a maximum of two Vigilance Commissioners. The members are appointed by the President of India based on the recommendations of a committee comprising the Prime Minister (Chairperson), the Union Home Minister, and the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha. The tenure of office is four years or until the age of 65, whichever occurs earlier
