Denotified Tribes to Be Counted in Census 2027 Context: The ministry of social justice and empowerment has recommended to the Registrar General of India to include denotified tribes in the Census exercise, which will be initiated in 2026. This will be the first time in Independent India that denotified tribes will be enumerated since 1911. Denotified Tribes Previously classified as “criminal tribes” under the Colonial-era Criminal Tribes Act, 1871. The Act was repealed in 1949 after Independence and the tribal communities were "denotified".
