Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar (14 April 1891 – 6 December 1956) was a brilliant legal scholar, economist, politician, and social reformer. He spearheaded the Mahad Satyagraha in 1927 against social discrimination. He participated in all three Round Table Conferences. In 1932, he signed the Poona Pact with Gandhi, agreeing to drop the demand for separate electorates for the oppressed classes. He served as the Labour Member in the Viceroy's Executive Council (1942). He was the Chairman of the Drafting Committee of the Indian Constitution. He described Article 32 of the Constitution as the "Soul and Heart of the Constitution." In 1947, he became the first Law Minister of independent India. In 1956, Ambedkar converted to Buddhism along with his followers. The day of his passing is observed as Mahaparinirvan Diwas.
