About Energy Statistics India 2026 This report is an annual publication by the National Statistics Office (NSO) under the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI). It acts as a comprehensive source of information on energy resources, covering reserves, installed capacity, production, usage, and trade of various energy sources, including both fossil fuels and renewable energy. Key Highlights of the Report The Total Primary Energy Supply (TPES) reached 9,32,816 KTOE in FY 2024–25, showing a growth of 2.95% compared to the previous year. India’s total renewable energy potential rose to 47,04,043 MW as of March 2025, with solar power contributing the largest share at around 71%. More than 70% of the renewable energy potential is concentrated in six states—Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, and Madhya Pradesh. Installed renewable energy capacity recorded a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 10.93% between 2016 and 2025, while total electricity generation from renewables reached 4,16,823 GWh in FY 2024–25. Per capita energy consumption increased from 15,296 MJ in 2015–16 to 18,096 MJ in 2024–25. Transmission and Distribution (T&D) losses declined from 22% in FY 2015–16 to 17% in FY 2024–25, indicating better efficiency. Coal continues to be the main energy source, with its supply rising to 5,52,315 KTOE in FY 2024–25. Credit flow to the energy sector expanded significantly, increasing more than six times—from ₹1,688 crore in 2021 to ₹10,325 crore in 2025.
