Himachal Pradesh Day is celebrated annually on April 15th to commemorate the formation of the state of Himachal Pradesh. On April 15, 1948, Himachal Pradesh was constituted as a 'Chief Commissioner's Province.' Following the enactment of the Constitution of India, it became a 'Part C' state on January 26, 1950. Subsequently, on November 1, 1956, it was converted into a Union Territory. In 1966, it was expanded through the merger of the hilly areas of the state of Punjab. Finally, under the Himachal Pradesh Statehood Act of 1970, it attained full statehood status as the 18th state of India on January 25, 1971.
