India Receives Fourth S-400 Air Defence System Context: In 2018, the Central Government signed a contract with Russia to procure the state-of-the-art S-400 air defense systems. Under this agreement, Russia is obligated to supply five S-400 defense systems. Russia has dispatched the fourth S-400 air defense system to India. Against this backdrop and coinciding with the one-year anniversary of the military operation 'Operation Sindoor' Russia has handed over the fourth S-400 air defense system to India. 'Operation Sindoor' was launched against Pakistan following the terrorist attack in Pahalgam. During that operation, the S-400 system performed exceptionally well. The missiles integrated into this system are capable of striking and destroying any aerial target located east of the Indus River in Pakistan, from a distance of 400 kilometers. With the aim of further bolstering missile defense capabilities against Pakistan, this system is expected to be deployed along the Rajasthan border.
