India's Digital Economy Status 2026 Report Context: The report titled 'India's Digital Economy Status 2026' was released by the ICRIER-Prosus Centre for Internet and Digital Economy. This report evaluates the digital and Artificial Intelligence (AI)-related activities of 71 countries. Key Findings India has emerged as the 5th most digitized economy in the world. In the 'CHIPS-AI Index,' India ranks 4th globally, following the United States, China, and Singapore. India's global digital economy ranking has advanced from the 8th position held in 2025 to secure the 5th position in 2026. India's Artificial Intelligence (AI) Achievements India outperforms several developed economies, including Germany, France, Japan, the United Kingdom, and Canada. India stands as the country with the second-largest Artificial Intelligence (AI) talent pool in the world. This report recognizes India as an emerging global AI superpower. Global AI Trends Approximately 72% of global AI users are currently located in developing nations. Together, India and China account for nearly two-fifths of global AI usage. Among all major technologies in history, 'Generative AI' has witnessed the fastest adoption rate. Digital Economy Performance India has generated approximately $328 billion worth of trade digitally.  The factors driving this robust growth are: Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI), expanding internet connectivity, a vibrant entrepreneurial ecosystem, and a skilled digital workforce. The Emerging Global Digital Order Three of the world's top five digital economies belong to the Indo-Pacific region: China, Singapore, and India. ​​This report highlights the emergence of a tripartite digital order, standing alongside the traditional North Atlantic digital powers.
