India’s First Indigenous C295 Transport Aircraft Context: India is set to achieve a major milestone in defence manufacturing with the delivery of its first Made-in-India C295 transport aircraft to the Indian Air Force (IAF) in September 2026.  Built by Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL) in collaboration with Airbus, it will be the first military aircraft produced in India by a private-sector company. About the C295 Aircraft The C295 is a medium-range tactical transport aircraft developed by Airbus Defence and Space.  It is capable of performing a variety of missions, including troop deployment, cargo transportation, medical evacuation, disaster response, and special operations.  It can operate from short, semi-prepared, or unpaved airstrips, making it suitable for remote and challenging locations.  Several countries already use the C295 for tactical airlift missions due to its operational efficiency and versatility.  Significance for India The aircraft marks a historic step in India's defence-industrial growth as the first military aircraft to be assembled domestically by a private company.  It reflects the country's efforts to strengthen indigenous defence production and reduce dependence on imports.    Current Facts   SDG 3 - Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages (reducing global Maternal Mortality Ratio to less than 70 deaths per 1,00,000 live births and to end preventable deaths of newborns and children under five years of age by 2030) Kunal Shah, a leading Indian fintech entrepreneur, has been appointed as the Global CEO of WhatsApp. Bangladesh joined the International Big Cat Alliance (IBCA) as its 27th member nation on June 24, 2026.
