Defence INS Vikrant An Indian Navy MiG-29K fighter jet on 24 may 2023, landed on the indigenous aircraft carrier INS Vikrant for the first time at night. The aircraft carrier is currently sailing in the Arabian Sea. It was commissioned into the navy 2022 September by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The carrier is the first to be built in India and was constructed by the Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) in Kerala. The namesake Vikrant is a tribute to India's first aircraft carrier INS Vikrant (1961). Vikrant means "courageous". Navy to get INS Vikrant by 2021

India's first indigenously-manufactured aircraft carrier INS Vikrant will be inducted into the Navy in 2021. The ship now under construction at Cochin Shipyard was earlier scheduled to join service this year. A model of the 40,000 ton ship will be part of the Navy tableau on Republic Day. At present, the Indian Navy has only one aircraft carrier INS Vikramaditya. The INS Vikrant will be able to have 20 MIG-29K fighter jets, and ten helicopters.
