International Day of Persons with Disabilities Date: December 3. Objective: To recognize services for persons with disabilities. Theme: “Fostering disability-inclusive societies for advancing social progress.” Key Initiatives of the Tamil Nadu Government Award Recognition: The Government of Tamil Nadu encourages this by presenting State Awards. Government Objective: To provide equal rights and equal opportunities to persons with disabilities, enabling them to live with self-respect in society. Tamil Nadu Urimaigal Thittam:  Implemented to provide doorstep assistance based on the principle of 'Everything for Everyone'. Funding: Implemented with loan assistance from the World Bank. Operation: Integrating services from various departments to ensure that all rehabilitation services are available in the areas where persons with disabilities reside. Livelihood Development: Providing maintenance allowance. Allocation of house sites and houses in urban and rural areas. Power Sharing: Legislative amendments have been made to the Tamil Nadu Urban Local Bodies system. Through this, persons with disabilities are appointed as members in all local bodies through nomination, enabling them to participate in policy-making authority.
