General Science International Year of Quantum Science 2025 Context: 2025 has been declared the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology by UNESCO, marking 100 years since the formal development of quantum mechanics in 1925. Quantum mechanics is the branch of physics that explains the behaviour of matter and energy at atomic and subatomic scales. National Quantum Mission (NQM) Aim: To seed, nurture and scale up scientific and industrial R&D and create a vibrant & innovative ecosystem in Quantum Technology (QT). It’s objectives is to developing intermediate-scale quantum computers with 50-1000 physical qubits in 8 years in various platforms like superconducting and photonic technology.
