National Press Day November 16 - is a symbol of free and responsible journalism in India. This is the day when the Press Council of India began to act as a moral watchdog to ensure that the press is not only maintained at the high standards expected from a powerful media outlet but also is not controlled by the influence or threats of any external factors. While there are many press or media councils around the world, the Press Council of India is unique in that it is the only body that has the authority even over the instruments of the state in the duty of protecting press freedom.
