Population Census The Union Minister of State for Home Affairs has informed the Lok Sabha that the housing census will be conducted from April to September 2026, and the population census will begin in March 2027. The population census will be conducted by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs. It will be conducted in two phases: First, the housing census, and Second, the population census. During the 2027 population census, a caste census will also be conducted. To facilitate the conduct of the population census, a pilot census was conducted until November 30 in selected cities across some states and union territories on a trial basis.
