Rashtriya Vigyan Puraskar (RVP) 2025 – National Awards for Scientific Achievements The Government of India announced the Rashtriya Vigyan Puraskar (RVP) awards for 2025, which are Padma-style national awards for scientific achievement. The awards comprised 24 individual honours and one team honour this year. The RVP is divided into four categories: 1.Vigyan Ratna (VR): Purpose: Recognizes lifetime achievements and contributions in any field of science and technology. Recipient (2024): Eminent physicist Jayant Vishnu Narlikar, who passed away in May this year. The award was presented to him in recognition of his collaborative research with British astronomer Fred Hoyle, who refuted the Big Bang theory of the origin of the universe. He has received various prestigious awards including Padma Bhushan, Padma Vibhushan, Maharashtra Bhushan, and Britain's Adams Prize. 2.Vigyan Shri (VS): Purpose: Awarded for distinguished contributions in any field of science and technology. Recipients (2024): Eight scientists were selected - Gyanendra Pratap Singh, Yusuf Mohammed Shaikh, K. Thangaraj, Pradeep Thapalil, Aniruddha Balchandra Pandit, Venkata Mohan, Mahan Mj and Jayan N. 3.Vigyan Yuva (VY): Purpose: Recognizes exceptional contributions by young scientists under the age of 45. Recipients (2024): Fourteen scientists were selected - Jagadis Gupta Kapuganti, Satendra Kumar Mangrauthia, Debarka Sengupta, Deepa Agashe, Dibyendu Das, Waliur Rahman, Arkaprava Basu, Sabyasachi Mukherjee, Shweta Prem Agrawal, Suresh Kumar, Amit Kumar Agrawal, Surhud Shrikant More, Ankur Garg, and Mohansankar Sivaprakasan. 4.Vigyan Team Award: Purpose: Given annually to a team comprising three or more scientists, researchers, or innovators. Recipient (2024): The CSIR Aroma Mission. About the Vigyan Ratna Award The Vigyan Ratna Award was established in 2023. The first award- It was awarded to Govindarajan Padmanaban, a biochemistry and biotechnology researcher from Tamil Nadu, in 2024. The second award has been announced for the late scientist Jayant Narlikar
