Initiatives/ Scheme Tamil Nadu's First Electronics & Semiconductor Policy (2027) CONTEXT: The Tamil Nadu government, has started consulting with experts to develop its first industrial policy, aimed for release in January 2027.The initial meetings focused on the electronics and semiconductor sector to gather insights on growth opportunities and necessary policy interventions.Discussions included representatives from the Guidance Tamil Nadu agency, the Electronics Industries Association of India, and the India Cellular & Electronics Association. Tamil Nadu currently leads the nation in electronics exports with a 41% share and has established a specialized Semiconductor Mission for 2030.    ABOUT Policy: Tamil Nadu Government is preparing its first Electronics and Semiconductor Policy. The policy is targeted for release in January 2027.  Expert consultations have begun with industry associations and stakeholders.  Tamil Nadu accounts for 41% of India's electronics exports.  The State has launched the Semiconductor Mission 2030 to strengthen the semiconductor ecosystem.  Objectives Promote investment in the electronics and semiconductor sectors.  Increase manufacturing and exports.  Generate employment and develop skilled manpower.  Strengthen semiconductor design, fabrication, assembly, testing, and packaging.  Position Tamil Nadu as a global electronics manufacturing hub.  Policy Agenda Attract domestic and foreign investments.  Develop world-class industrial infrastructure and semiconductor clusters.  Support research, innovation, and technology development.  Strengthen industry–academia collaboration and skill development.  Improve ease of doing business through policy incentives.  Enhance supply chain resilience and boost exports.
