Initiatives/ Schemes Wildlife Transit and Treatment Centre Tamil Nadu’s first Wildlife Transit and Treatment Centre at Pethikuttai near Sirumugai and an elephant camp at Chadivayal. This centre has an operational theatre and enclosure for all animals along with a separate shed for elephant calves. History & Culture Republic Day parade Background: The Central Home Ministry has given its approval for the Tamil Nadu government's tableau to be included in the Republic Day parade to be held in Delhi on January 26, 2026. Tamil Nadu Tableaux 2024 : The Tamil Nadu tableau highlighting the glory of the Kudavolai system was featured. 2025 : The Tamil Nadu tableau was not included. 2026 : The Tamil Nadu government's tableau, created based on the theme of "Green Energy," has now received approval. Shanmugam and Pratik Tayal Environment Vulture Safe Zone Context: The Forest Department has formed a 14 member team as part of the declaration of a Vulture Safe Zone around the Moyar valley. It extends into the Mudumalai Tiger Reserve in the Nilgiris, the Sathyamangalm Tiger Reserve in Erode district. Primary goal of Vulture Safe Zone is to create a safe environment free from threats, especially the use of toxic veterinary NSIADs like diclofenac. Synchronised vulture census is being conducted with the participation of Karnataka and Kerala forest departments.
