It became a turning point for Periyar E. V. Ramasamy, who left the Congress and later founded the Dravidar Kazhagam. Soosaiappar Primary School – A Progressive Model Soosaiappar Primary School in Cheranmahadevi stood out during a time of intense social unrest over caste discrimination. Located on Arasadi Street, the school had already completed 50 years of service at the time of Cheranmahadevi incident. Founded by a Catholic community elder without missionary assistance.
