Singappen Special Force 

  • Context: The Singappen Special Force (SSF) was launched by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister in Chennai. 
  • It is aimed at preventing crimes against women through proactive policing
  • The force has been launched with 280 personnel operating through 70 patrol units
  • An amount of ₹354 crore has been earmarked for the first phase of the project. 

Advanced Technology and Equipment

  • SSF personnel will be equipped with: 
    • Advanced surveillance drones
    • Four-wheeler and two-wheeler patrol vehicles
    • Body-worn cameras with live-streaming and video-call facilities. 

Key Features

  • The force focuses on preventive policing, aiming to stop crimes before they occur. 
  • Drone patrolling for women’s safety is being introduced for the first time in India. 

Objective

  • To strengthen women’s security through technology-driven surveillance and rapid response mechanisms
  • To create a safer environment for women across Tamil Nadu.
