Reports and Indices 479 maternal deaths in Tamil Nadu in one year According to the Department of Public Welfare, 479 maternal deaths have occurred in Tamil Nadu in one year. 20 percent of people died due to high blood pressure. Similarly, it has been revealed that pregnant women died due to excessive bleeding and heart problems during childbirth. Various schemes are being implemented in Tamil Nadu to avoid maternal deaths. Apart from medical tests and treatments, special programs are being implemented to ensure nutrition for pregnant women.
