Important Days World Heritage Day is celebrated annually on April 18 to promote awareness of the need to protect our cultural ancestry. In some nations, this day is also referred to as the International Day for Monuments and Sites. The 50th anniversary of UNESCO World Heritage is being commemorated this year. The theme for 2023 is “Heritage Changes”. Books & Authors  Karisal, one of the best novels of Sahitya Akademi award-winning writer Ponneelan, has been translated into English by his granddaughter and doctor Priyadarshini under the title 'Black Soil'. The novel 'Karisal' was published in 1976 on the theme of propagating left-wing ideologies and the formation of farmers' unions in and around Kovilpatti. Ponneelan won the 1994 Sahitya Akademi Award for his Tamil novel Pudhiya Dharisanangal.

Writer Anand bags Ezhuthacha Award

Kerala Chief Minster Pinarayi Vijayan presented the Ezhuthacha Award for the year 2019 to writer Ananh (P.Sachidanandan) at Thiruvananthapuram. The award carries a purse of ₹5 lakh. The author has penned novels such as Aalkootam, Maranacertificate and Marubhoomikal Undakunnathu. The Ezhuthachan Puraskaram is the highest literary honor that is given by the Kerala Sahitya Akademi, Government of Kerala. The award is named after Thunchaththu Ezhuthachan, the father of the Malayalam language and consists of a cash prize of ₹5,00,000 and a citation. The prize money was enhanced by ₹50,000 in 2011. The award was instituted in 1993 and Sooranad Kunjan Pillai was its first recipient.
