The Tripura government has renamed Baramura Hills in Kokborok language on ‘Kokborok Day’, thereby fulfilling the long-standing demand of Kokborok speaking people that prominent places of the state be renamed in the local language. The state government, through an emergency cabinet decision, has renamed the Baramura Hills as “Hatai Kutul” to mark “Kokborok Day” held every year on January 19.
