Sports Pankaj Advani wins World Billiards Championship Pankaj Advani won the IBSF World Billiards Championship title in Doha for the 26th time. He won his first world title in 2003. Appointments Coast Guard gets new Eastern Regional Commander Inspector General Donny Michael assumed office as the Coast Guard’s Eastern Regional Commander, replacing Inspector General Anand Prakash Badola. Mr. Badola will be taking charge as Deputy Director General (Policy and Plans) at the Coast Guard Headquarters in New Delhi. UGC set to constitute expert committee to update syllabi of NET The University Grants Commission (UGC) has decided to update the syllabi of the National Eligibility Test for Junior Research Fellowship and appointment as assistant professors in various subjects. The UGC-NET is held in 83 subjects twice a year, usually in June and December. The National Testing Agency (NTA) conducts the UGC-NET.

Sports  Indian weightlifter Bharali Bedabrate clinched the men's 67kg bronze medal at the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) World Youth Championships in Durres, Albania. Appointments  Former Brazilian President Dilma Vana Rousseff has been elected as the new President of the New Development Bank (NDB) of BRICS. NDB, also known as BRICS bank is a multilateral financial institution set up by the five BRICS countries including Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. About BRICS: BRICS is an acronym for the grouping of the world’s leading emerging economies, namely Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. Places in News  World's highest railway bridge. The Chenab bridge, which India claims is the world’s highest railway bridge, will have trains plying on it by January February 2024. The first run of a track-mounted trolley on the arch bridge was conducted on March 21. The bridge is at a height of 359 m, it is taller than the Eiffel Tower in Paris, which stands at 330 m. The Chenab bridge had been constructed in a highly seismic prone area. The foundation of the bridge has been built to sustain an earthquake [measuring] up to eight on the Richter scale. 28,000 tonnes of steel has been used to construct the arch bridge. Sports  Nikhat Zareen won the 50kg category Gold in Women's World Boxing Championship in New Delhi. Nikhat defeated Thi Tham Nyugen of Vietnam in the final. Nikhat is the 2nd Indian woman after Mary Kom to win multiple Gold medals at the World Championships. Nikhat Zareen is from Nizamabad, which is located in the state of Telangana. This is India's third Gold medal at the ongoing World Championship., Nitu Ghanghas (48kg) and Saweety Boora (81kg) won the gold medals in their respective weight categories. Lovlina Borgohain added fourth gold to India's tally at the IBA Women's World Boxing Championship in New Delhi. The Tokyo Olympic bronze medalist produced a strong show in the 70-75kg finals, where she defeated Australia's Caitlin Anne Parker . This is Lovlina's first gold at the competition after settling for bronze in 2018 and 2019 edition. Lovlina Borgohain is from Golaghat, Assam.

Defence  Exercise ' Vayu Prahar' The Indian Army and the Indian Air force conducted a multi-domain air-land exercise 'Vayu Prahar' in the eastern theatre to validate plans to execute synergised operations. With an eye on China, the drill which lasted for four days (96 hours) involved not only the Indian Army, Air Force but also the Special Forces. The objective was to validate joint plans to prosecute synergized multiple domain operations. Sports  Nitu Ghanghas secured India's first gold after defeating Mongolia's Lutsaikhan Altantsetseg in the 45-48 kg category finals . Women's World Boxing Championships 2023 is being hosted by India in New Delhi. Nitu Ghanghas is from Haryana's Bhiwani district. India's Saweety Boora defeated Lina Wang of China in the Elite Women 75-81 kg light heavyweight category at the IBA Women's World Boxing Championships in New Delhi. Saweety defeated Lina to win the second gold medal for India at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium. Saweety Boora is from Hisar, Haryana.
