Ladakh’s Aksai Chin is part of China: WHO map

The World Health Organisation map shows the Aksai Chin region as a part of China with a dotted line and colour code. Also marks Pakistan-occupied Kashmir(PoK) with dotted lines, suggesting it as a disputed territory. Jammu and Kashmir(J&K) and the rest of India are marked in different colour codes. Many United Nations (UN) maps have shown parts of Kashmir as ‘disputed’ territory in the past, but this is the 1st time that Ladakh and J&K are shown in different colour codes than the rest of India. The map of China is based on the 1989 edition of the Sky Map of its national borders, though Beijing has resolved its border issues with Russia and Central Asian countries. WHO initiated mega trial “Solidarity” of 4 promising drugs to cure Covid-19

In accordance with the Science Magazine report the World Health Organization (WHO) has started a mega trial namely “Solidarity” of four most promising drugs that may cure the novel coronavirus (COVID-19). The trial consists of study, testing, and development of antidote against coronavirus through four most promising therapies which are as follows: Remdesivir– This experimental antiviral compound was widely used to combat Ebola and other dangerous viruses in the past. Chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine: This is used to treat patients suffering from malaria. Indian Council for Medical Research (ICMR) has also recommended this for healthcare workers and caregivers looking after positive COVID-19 patients. Combination of lopinavir and ritonavir: This drug combination is used for treating human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). This combination slows down the process of deterioration of organs.In India, it was used to treat the first case of coronavirus who were a couple from Italy. Ritonavir/lopinavir plus interferon-beta: This combination is used to treat Middle-East respiratory syndrome coronavirus (MERS) patients in Saudi Arabia.Interferon-beta is immune system messengers that can help cripple viruses.

TB diagnostic test developed in India has high accuracy, says WHO

The World Health Organization (WHO) hadmentioned that the India - made Truenat MTB, a molecular diagnostic test for pulmonary and extrapulmonary TB and rifampicin-resistant TB, has high accuracy. Truenat MTB has “high diagnostic accuracy as initial test to diagnose TB and to sequentially detect rifampicin resistance”. It will be used as an initial test thus replacing sputum smear microscopy. Truenat is developed by the Goa-based Molbio Diagnostics. The company was provided with technical assistance and resources by the Foundation for Innovative New Diagnostics (FIND) to help commercialise Truenat. ICMR had assessed and validated the diagnostic tool.
