Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP)  Context: BBBP has evolved as a Nationwide Movement Driving Behavioural Change and Girl Child Empowerment. Over the years, India has strengthened maternal and early childhood care through a combination of health services, nutrition support, and institutional delivery systems.  Beti Bachao Beti Padhao: Advancing Dignity at Birth and Early Childhood Care Launch The scheme Beti Bachao Beti Padhao was launched on 22 January 2015. It was started to address the problem of low child sex ratio and gender discrimination against girls. Implementation Ministry of Women and Child Development Ministry of Health and Family Welfare Ministry of Education Objective To protect, educate, and empower the girl child To ensure her survival, safety, and equal opportunities To promote dignity and equal treatment from birth Key Improvements Sex Ratio at Birth improved from 918 (2014–15) to 929 (2024–25) Shows reduction in gender-biased sex selection Education Progress Girls’ enrolment at secondary level increased from 75.51% to 80.2% Indicates better school retention and continuation of education Approach Focuses on the entire life cycle of a girl child Includes birth, early care, education, and empowerment Encourages behaviour change through awareness and community participation Significance Promotes gender equality and social awareness Supports women-led development in India Ensures every girl child gets protection, education, and opportunities
