It was inaugurated as part of the "One Nation, One Time" initiative. Objective To create a secure and indigenous national time system. To reduce India's dependence on foreign time sources such as GPS and ensure reliable time synchronization across the country. About White Rabbit (WR) Technology White Rabbit (WR) is an open-source technology based on the Ethernet network. It provides extremely accurate time synchronization with sub-nanosecond accuracy and picosecond-level precision. It also supports high-speed (gigabit) data transfer over large networks. About One Nation, One Time One Nation, One Time is a government initiative to create one accurate and common time system for the entire country. It will provide the same precise time for government offices, industries, technology systems, and the public. The government will establish five Legal Metrology laboratories across India to distribute time with microsecond-level accuracy. Need for Self-Reliant Timekeeping India currently depends on the GPS system, which is controlled by the United States, for accurate timing. This dependence can create national security and cybersecurity risks. During the Kargil War (1999), India faced problems in getting accurate GPS data, which affected military operations. A domestic timekeeping system will reduce foreign dependence and improve the protection of critical infrastructure. Working mechanism The National Physical Laboratory (NPL) will maintain India's official time using high-precision atomic clocks.
