Eligible Manufacturer Importers (EMI) Scheme Context: The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) has rolled out a deferred payment option for Customs duties for qualifying manufacturer importers under the EMI Scheme. About the EMI Scheme Launched by the CBIC as part of the Union Budget 2026–27 announcements. The scheme will remain operational from 1 April 2026 to 31 March 2028. Under this framework, eligible manufacturer importers (EMIs) are permitted to release imported consignments without making immediate Customs duty payments.  Instead, the duty can be paid on a monthly basis in accordance with the Deferred Payment of Import Duty Rules, 2016. The initiative is aimed at easing working capital pressures for manufacturers, strengthening tax compliance, supporting domestic production, and improving the overall business environment in India. Current Facts Oleum(H₂S₂O₇)—a concentrated form of sulfuric acid—useful form for transporting sulphuric acid compounds, typically in rail tank cars, between oil refineries and industrial consumers.
