Initiatives/ Scheme  e-Zero FIR System Context: The Tamil Nadu Government has implemented the e-Zero First Information Report (FIR) system for faster registration and investigation of cyber financial fraud cases. Cyber fraud complaints involving a loss of more than 1 lakh, reported through the 1930 National Cybercrime Helpline, will be automatically linked with the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems (CCTNS) for e-Zero FIR registration. About e-Zero FIR System  An electronic system for the quick registration and investigation of cyber financial fraud cases. Implemented by the Tamil Nadu Government with support from the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA). Key Features Applicable to cyber financial fraud complaints involving losses exceeding ₹1 lakh. Complaints reported through the 1930 National Cybercrime Helpline are automatically integrated with the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems (CCTNS) for e-Zero FIR registration. Introduced under Section 173 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023. Enables electronic registration of Zero FIRs irrespective of territorial jurisdiction. The e-Zero FIR is electronically transferred to the jurisdictional cybercrime police station. After verification, it is converted into a regular FIR. Objectives Ensure faster registration of cybercrime cases. Facilitate swift investigation and coordination. Enable freezing of fraudulent transactions during the Golden Hour (the crucial period immediately after a cyber fraud, when prompt action significantly improves the chances of stopping fund transfers and recovering money). Preserve digital evidence. Improve the recovery of defrauded funds. Significance Reduces delays caused by jurisdictional issues. Strengthens India's cybercrime response through integration with CCTNS. Enhances coordination between the 1930 Cyber Helpline, police, and financial institutions.
