Sports & Games  ISSF World Shooting Championships 2023  53rd ISSF World Shooting Championships 2023 held in Baku, Azerbaijan. Esha Singh and Shiva Narwal won the mixed air pistol gold. India is second on the medals table in the World Championship.  Note It also serves as a qualification event for 2024 Summer Olympics. Wrestling U20 World Championships The World U20 Wrestling Championships 2023 held in Amman, Jordan. Antim Panghal becoming the first Indian woman wrestler to win back-to-back U20 world titles as she defended her 53kg crown. Savita (62kg) too crowed herself a world champion as the Indian women team won the team title at a world championship for the first time in the history of sport. Priya Malik had won the 76kg title. In a phenomenal result for Indian wrestling, seven wrestlers from the country won medals, including three gold medals, one silver and three bronze. Note Panghal had become first Indian woman grappler last year to win a junior world championship title.

World Population Day – July 11 Theme 2023 – “Unleashing the power of gender equality: Uplifting the voices of women and girls to unlock our world's infinite possibilities”. Sports & Games Lakshya Sen wins Canada Open 2023 Lakshya Sen ended his year-long title drought with a win over All England champion Li Shi Feng in the Canada Open BWF Super 500 final in Calgary. This is Sen's first title after the Commonwealth Games gold last year.

Important Days World Zoonoses Day - 6th July It was instituted to educate and raise awareness about zoonotic diseases that can transmit from animals to humans. Theme 2023 - One World, One Health: Prevent Zoonoses, Stop the Spread Background On this day in 1885, the French biologist, Louis Pasteur successfully administered the first vaccine against rabies, which is a zoonotic disease. On July 6, 2007, the 100th anniversary of Louis Pasteur's passing, the first World Zoonoses Day was commemorated to recognise his contributions to the study of zoonotic illnesses. Zoonotic diseases Zoonosis is an infectious disease that has jumped from a non-human animal to humans. Zoonotic pathogens may be bacterial, viral or parasitic, or may involve unconventional agents and can spread to humans through direct contact or through food, water or the environment. Zoonotic Diseases in India A recent report from the State of the World's Forests 2022 predicts India as a potential hotspot for zoonotic viral diseases. About 70% of all emerging diseases such as rabies, swine flu, nipah, brucellosis,  leptospirosis, porcine cysticercosis, kala azar (Black fever) and zika that affect humans are zoonotic in nature.  World Organizations – Pacts and Summits High Seas Treaty The UN adopted the Marine Biodiversity of Areas Beyond National Jurisdiction (BBNJ) or the High Seas Treaty. It became the third agreement to be approved under UNCLOS, after the 1994 and 1995 treaties, which established the International Seabed Authority and the Fish Stocks agreement. The treaty’s objective is to implement international regulations to protect life in oceans beyond national jurisdiction through international cooperation. The treaty aims to address critical issues such as the increasing sea surface temperatures, overexploitation of marine biodiversity, overfishing, coastal pollution, and unsustainable practices beyond national jurisdiction.
