Important Days  International Day of Persons with Disabilities - December 3 The day is observed every year to spread awareness and mobilise support for the rights and well-being of people with disabilities globally. Sports and Games ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 The Australian cricket team led by Pat Cummins won the 13th edition of the International Cricket Council (ICC) Men’s One Day International (ODI) Cricket World Cup 2023 by defeating India in the finals held in Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. Australia won the Cricket world cup for the sixth time. Important Days  75th National Infantry Day – October 27 It is observed annually to commemorate and pay tribute to the brave Indian infantry soldiers. It was on this day in 1947 that Infantrymen from Indian Army, led by the Sikh regiment, landed at Srinagar Airfield and saved the State of J&K from Pakistani invasion. Sports and Games 37th National Games inaugurated Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 37th National Games at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Goa. The event is being held in five Goan cities - Mapusa, Margao, Panjim, Ponda and Vasco. Goa is hosting the National Games for the first time in its history. Sqay martial arts, rollball, sepaktakraw, kalaripayattu, pencak silat and mini golf have been added in the 37th edition Yachting and taekwondo, excluded in Gujarat 2022, are back in Goa. World Organisations – Pacts and Summits International Solar Alliance to release report on global adoption of solar technology in November The International Solar Alliance (ISA) has planned to compile and release a ‘global solar stock-take report. The report is inspired by the first ever ‘Global Stocktake’ of the United Nations Conference of Parties, scheduled in Dubai. In the report countries are expected to give an account of the actions taken until now to transition their economies away from fossil fuel. The countries also lay out plans to course correct, if their commitments are insufficient to prevent runaway global warming. The Global Stocktake follows from the Paris Agreement signed in 2015 and is expected to be released once in five years. Sports and Games World Athletics Championships 2023  World Athletics Championships 2023 was concluded in Budapest, Hungary.  India won one gold medal and finished 18th in the Medals table.  Neeraj Chopra won India's only medal in the event - gold in the men's javelin throw competition. This was India's third medal ever at the World Athletics Championships 2023 after Anju Bobby George's long jump bronze at Paris 2003 and Neeraj's silver at Oregon 2022. Note  Indian men's 4x400m relay team also created an Asian record at the meet.  Parul Chaudhary broke the national record and qualified for Paris 2024 Olympics in the women's 3000m steeplechase event.

Sports and Games IBSA World Games 2023:  IBSA (International Blind Sports Federation) World Games 2023 held in Birmingham, England.  The world's biggest gathering of athletes with visual impairments.  India women's blind cricket team beats Australia in final and claim gold medal.  India men's blind cricket team wins silver medal after defeat against Pakistan.  Note  Cricket is included in the IBSA World Games for the first time and India's both men's and women's blind teams reached finals to make history. World Organizations – Pacts and Summits SCO Summit The grouping’s decision to induct Iran as its ninth and latest member was one of a number of agreements signed at the summit. However, India, who hosted the summit for the first time, refused to join other members on paragraphs relating to China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) in the joint statement, and stayed out of a joint statement on SCO Economic Development Strategy 2030, indicating a lack of consensus in the grouping.  India took sharp aim at Pakistan for cross-border terrorism, and at China for connectivity projects that do not respect sovereign boundaries. The agreements signed include the New Delhi Declaration, outlining areas of cooperation between SCO countries; a joint statement on countering radicalisation; and one on digital transformation, where India offered to share expertise on digital payment interfaces. Note: The SCO grouping now comprises China, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.  Eminent persons 125th birth anniversary of Alluri Sitaraman Raju. President Droupadi Murmu paid tribute to the freedom fighter Alluri Sitramam Raju at the closing ceremony of his 125th birth anniversary celebrations in Hyderabad. Known for: Rampa Rebellion of 1922. Places in News Tamil inscriptions at Thulukkarpatti site Tamil Nadu State Department of Archaeology (TNSDA) recently found potsherds with Tamil inscriptions during the excavation work at Thulukkarpatti near Radhapuram in Tirunelveli district. The TNSDA has been carrying out excavations at Thulukkarpatti village since March 15, 2022. Last week, a pot shell with Tamil inscriptions 'Puli' (Tiger) was found on the site.  Among the potsherds found now, there are potsherds with Tamil inscriptions such as 'Thi E ya', 'Thi sa' and 'Ku vi ra (n)'.  This is a good proof of literature in the Tamil community living on the banks of Nambiar with its own cultural elements. DEFENCE Exercise Bold Kurukshetra Recently, the Singapore Army and Indian Army participated in Exercise Bold Kurukshetra which was held at Jodhpur Military Station, India. It was the 13th edition of Exercise Bold Kurukshetra, a bilateral military exercise between India and the Singapore army. For the first time in the exercise series, both armies participated in a command post Exercise, which involved Battalion and Brigade level planning elements and  computer wargaming. It involved an understanding of mechanised warfare in emerging threats and evolving technologies, developing inter-operability through a computer simulation-based Wargame using joint operational and tactical procedures controlled through a joint command post. First conducted in 2005, this exercise underscores the strong and long-standing bilateral defence relationship between both countries and enhances cooperation between the two armies. Place in News: Prime Minister Narendra Modi dedicated World's longest railway platform of 1507 metres at Sri Siddhaarooda railway station in Hubballi in the state of Karnataka. Hubbali is now registered in the Guinness Book of World Records for having the longest platform. Gorakhpur platform in Uttar Pradesh is now the second longest at 1,366.33 meters, and Kollam Junction in Kerala has the third longest platform.
